Hee-ryong Won

Minister Hee-ryong Won has been serving as the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of the Republic of Korea since May 2022. As the minister in charge of land and infrastructure development in Korea, he focuses on balanced national development and creating conditions for safe living. In transport, his major policy initiative is mobility innovation to ensure Korea’s global competitiveness in this emerging sector and to introduce new mobility services to people’s daily lives. Before his current position, Minister Won developed careers in law and politics. From 1995 to 1998, he served as a prosecutor at the District Prosecutor’s Offices in Seoul, Suwon, and Busan. In between 2000 and 2012, he was a member of the Korean National Assembly, which included his brief chairing of the Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee in 2012. In 2014, he was elected as the governor of the Jeju Island, his hometown, and won his second-term in 2018. After the term of his governorship, he joined the Transition Committee for President Yoon Suk-yeol in 2022 as the committee planning chief. Minister Won graduated from the College of Law of the Seoul National University, having majored in the public law. He also holds a master’s degree in journalism.
