About the Speaker
Kyung Suk Kim

Dr. Kyungsuk Kim holds a Ph.D. in Engineering from Seoul National University in Korea and has been working at the Korea Expressway Corporation since 1991. His expertise lies in disaster prevention and mitigation for road infrastructure affected by rainfall, focusing on both technical and institutional countermeasures. His doctoral research, titled “Analysis of Rainfall Characteristics inducing Shallow Failures of Road Slopes,” laid the foundation for his continued work in understanding and responding to climate-induced hazards.

In recent years, Dr. Kim has been leading multiple research projects exploring the application of digital technologies in road construction and maintenance, and the integration of Building Information Modeling (BIM) for geotechnical infrastructure. His work aims to enhance the resilience of transportation systems under changing climate conditions. He is particularly interested in environmentally sustainable approaches to recovering from road inundation, road slope failures and debris flow disasters caused by extreme rainfall. Dr. Kim’s contributions support the development of nature-friendly, climate-resilient road infrastructure in Korea and provide critical insights for policy and engineering practices.
