Nihan Akyelken is an Associate Professor in Sustainable Urban Development at the University of Oxford. Born in Turkey, she obtained her undergraduate and master degrees from the London School of Economics and Political Science in the areas of Economics and Philosophy and European Political Economy. She completed her PhD in Economic Geography at the University of Oxford. Nihan is an economic and social geographer, specialising in mobility of people and goods, inequalities and access, infrastructure, labour and work. Her latest book “Women, Work and Mobilities” was published in 2024 and focuses on urban and regional contexts in Turkey. Nihan is the winner of the 2015 OECD-ITF Young Researcher of the Year Award.
