Eyjólfur Ármannsson, Iceland‘s Minister of Transport and Local Government from December 21st 2024 – March 15th 2025 and Minister of Infrastructure since 15th of March 2025, has built a distinguished career at the intersection of law, public service, and international finance. Born in Iceland but educated both at home and abroad, he completed high school in East Aurora, New York, before earning his matriculation from Menntaskólinn við Sund. He received a Master‘s degree in Law from the University of Iceland in 1998, followed by further legal studies in European Law at KU Leuven and an LLM from the University of Pennsylvania. He holds district court attorney rights and passed the securities brokerage exam in 2000.
Eyjólfur’s career spans key roles in public administration and financial institutions. He has served as Deputy District Commissioner, legal advisor in ministries and regulatory bodies, and Assistant Prosecutor for economic crimes at the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police. His international experience includes legal positions at DNB and Nordea banks in Oslo. He later co-founded a Reykjavík-based law firm and served as a legal advisor to Isavia.
Elected to Althingi in 2021 for the Northwest Constituency with the People’s Party, Eyjólfur held leadership roles on several parliamentary committees.
