Session Summary: “Plenary: Workforce Resilience and Emergency Preparedness”

This session will explore the integral role of all workers – paid and unpaid – in fostering resilient transport systems, highlighting the importance of the care economy and its often-overlooked contributions.

  • How can resources – personnel, equipment, and technology – be mobilized to effectively manage disruptions, while ensuring that workers are recognised and supported?
  • What strategies can be implemented to address workforce shortages and ensure the safety of all workers, particularly in vulnerable roles within the care economy?
  • What specific training and capacity-building measures are necessary to enhance resilience in transport operations, considering the diverse contributions of workers?
  • How can emergency preparedness plans be improved for transport service providers to include an integrated approach that acknowledges the contributions of care workers and other essential personnel?
