Bronwen Thornton
Bronwen is an international expert on walking and walkable communities, giving walking a voice on the international stage and within local communities, cities and professional arenas. She has extensive experience in strategic transport planning, community and political engagement, on-street analysis and policy and project delivery with a focus on equitable and sustainable transport.
As CEO of Walk21 she works closely with international agencies to address global challenges and ensure walking is part of the solutions for climate change, road safety and public health, the Sustainable Development Goals and New Urban Agenda. She leads on the annual international Conference series and strategic development of knowledge products, practical tools, and professional development opportunities.
She particularly likes to work in creative partnerships to inspire politicians and practitioners about the value of walking and to build momentum for investment by national governments and multilateral agencies. Bronwen is Chair of the Africa Network for Walking and Cycling.
