Kaspars Gerhards
Kaspars Gerhards is a Latvian politician with a deep knowledge of economics and long and wide experience in different Ministries and economic sectors. Currently, Mr Gerhards is the Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Transport of Latvia, which is the leading state administration institution for the transport and communication sectors.
Born on February 7, 1969 in the city of Jelgava, Mr Gerhards moved to Riga to study at 1st Riga Highschool, proceeding his studies in the Faculty of Economics of the University of Latvia where he obtained a professional Master’s degree in economic planning in 1993.
Right after University Mr Gerhards started his career in the government sector as the Assistant Minister of Economics. After a few years of intense experience working in different companies as an advisor in economic planning matters as well as advisor of the President on economic matters, Mr Gerhards became the State Secretary of the Ministry of Economics in 1999. A few years later he actively entered politics and became the Minister of Economics in 2007.
Mr Gerhards has also worked as Minister of Transport (2009 – 2010), Minister of Environmental protection and regional development (2014-2019), and Minister of Agriculture (2019-2022).
Mr Gerhards is married and has two sons.
