Deputy Executive Secretary
Mr. Dmitry Mariyasin is Deputy Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). In this role, he supports the strategic direction of the Commission’s work across key economic and social areas, with a particular focus strengthening regional cooperation, supporting countries in transition, and advancing sustainable and resilient connectivity, including through engagement with the private sector as well as innovative partnerships and strategic foresight.
Over the past two years, he has also led UNECE’s work on sustainable transport, guiding strategic efforts on inland transport governance, regulatory cooperation, and the transition toward low-emission and future-ready mobility systems.
Before joining UNECE, Dmitry built a distinguished career within the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). He served as Resident Representative in Armenia and held senior positions at UNDP headquarters and at the regional and country level. His work has focused on leading multi-dimensional teams, advising governments, strengthening institutions, and building partnerships to support effective development and resilience policies.
Dmitry holds a PhD in Economics from Moscow State University and a Master of Public Administration from New York University’s Wagner Graduate School of Public Service. He is married and has three children.
