Federal Minister of Transport Patrick Schnieder was born on 1 May 1968 in Kyllburg, Germany. He studied law at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Bonn and worked as a lawyer before entering public service. From 1999 to 2009, Mr. Schnieder served as mayor of the town of Arzfeld. Since 2009, he has been a member of the German Bundestag. He was the chair of the CDU/CSU group of parliamentarians from Rhineland-Palatinate, sat on the Committee on Transport and Digital Infrastructure as well as other committees. From 2014 to 2025, he chaired the Parliamentary Friendship Group for Relations with Belgium and Luxembourg. He also served as Parliamentary Secretary of the CDU/CSU group from 2018 to 2025. Patrick Schnieder became the German Federal Minister of Transport in May 2025.
