Tetsuya Tanaka

Tetsuya Tanaka is Chief of Climate Change at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). He leads and manages work programmes related to international aviation and climate change policy matters, including the development and implementation of the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), the global scale-up of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) and other aviation cleaner energies, and the provision of capacity-building and technical assistance to support ICAO Member States in addressing aviation CO2 emissions. He also leads ICAO’s cooperation with other UN bodies, such as the UNFCCC process. Before joining the ICAO Secretariat in 2008, Tanaka worked at the Civil Aviation Authority of Japan where he handled a wide range of aviation matters, including environmental issues, airworthiness, and bilateral air service agreements. He holds a B.S. and M.S. in Aeronautics and Aerospace Engineering from the University of Tokyo, Japan, and an M.S. in Engineering Management from the University of Southern California, U.S.
