Mr Ryo Watanabe has served as President and CEO of Metropolitan Intercity Railway Company since July 2023.
He began his career in 1984 at the Ministry of Transport (now the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, MLIT), where he gained more than 33 years of experience across various transport fields, such as aviation and railways. His professional journey also includes postings as First Secretary at the Embassy of Japan in Australia, Chief Executive of Planning and Regional Development Departments of Nagasaki Prefecture, Deputy Director-General of Japan Railway Construction, Transport and Technology Agency, and Deputy Director-General of the Administration Department of the Japan Meteorological Agency.
After retiring from the MLIT, Mr Watanabe served as an Advisor of Nishi-Nippon Railroad Co., Ltd., followed by his appointment as Senior Managing Director of Tokyo Metro Co., Ltd. He currently leads Metropolitan Intercity Railway Company, drawing on his extensive experience in public administration, infrastructure development, and corporate management.
